Woman in hospital after coast path fall in Cornwall

A woman has been taken to hospital after a bad fall on the coast path in west Cornwall.

Passersby flagged down an off-duty Coastguard rescuer after the incident near Long Rock.

The Penzance Coastguard team and paramedics were called in, after she suffered injuries to her shoulder and back.

It happened just after lunchtime on Monday and the casualty was stretchered to the waiting ambulance.

"At about 1240pm our station officer arriving at the western end of Long Rock car park to walk his dogs. He was approached by a member of the public saying that a lady had fallen badly some 200m away on the cycle path injuring her shoulder and back.

"An ambulance had been called for but had not yet arrived. After contacting Falmouth Coastguard operations centre, they liaised with ambulance control and as a consequence Penzance Coastguard rescue were tasked to proceed to assist the ambulance.

"First on scene with the lady was the team's deputy station officer to assess her medically, followed soon after by an ambulance.

"After initial assessment and then treatment to make her more comfortable, the lady was stretchered and placed in the ambulance for the onward journey to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.

"The Team were then free to return to station and the station officer to walk his dogs".
