One person fights for life after crash in Cornwall

One person is fighting for life after a serious crash on the main road between Penzance and Helston.

Pirate FM understands a car and a van hit head-on on the A394 near Porthleven on Monday afternoon.

The casualty was airlifted to Derriford in a life-threatening condition, while two others suffered minor injuries.

The stretch at Stopgate was closed through the evening while investigators swept the scene.

Devon and Cornwall Police are urging anyone who saw something just after 3.30pm to come forward.

"At approximately 1539 hours on Monday 8th October 2018, police were notified of a serious road traffic collision that had occurred on the A394 at its junction with B3304, near to Stopgate, Porthleven.

"The collision involved two vehicles and the road was closed for a period of time to allow for casualty extraction, scene examination, investigation and vehicle recovery.

"As a result of this collision, one person was taken to Derriford hospital in a life-threatening condition. Two further persons were taken to Treliske with minor injuries.

"The collision involved a white Fiat Panda which had been travelling on the B3304 toward the main A394 and a white Iveco van.

"For reasons yet to be established, the Panda has joined the main A394 road from the minor road, into the path of the oncoming Van who was travelling along the main A394".

The Roads Policing Team and Serious Collision Investigation Team are appealing for witnesses who may be able to add some information to this investigation to come forward, quoting log number DCP-20181008-0511
