Elderly man dies after serious crash in Wadebridge

An elderly man has died after a car hit a house in Wadebridge.

The 80-year-old pedestrian was airlifted to Derriford with critical injuries.

But sadly doctors could not save him and he passed away in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The driver was cut free from the car and was taken to Treliske but he is not thought to be seriously hurt.

Southern Way was closed for several hours on Tuesday whilst investigators went over the scene.

Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact officers.

"Police were called at around 11:25am on Tuesday 9th October with reports of a Honda Jazz having a pedestrian ;the vehicle has continued over the pavement and collided with the gable end of a house, causing extensive damage on Southern Way, Wadebridge.

"Emergency services including Fire and Ambulance all in attendance.

"The driver, a 77-year-old man was initially trapped, but was since been freed. He was taken to Treliske Hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious.

"The pedestrian, an 80-year-old local man was airlifted to Derriford Hospital having sustained critical injuries; he died in the early hours of this morning. His next of kin have been informed.

"Localised closures were in place whilst emergency services tended to this incident.

"Local officers as well as Officers from the Roads Policing Team, and Serious Collison Investigation Team attended the scene."
