VIDEO: Is Storm Callum heading for Cornwall?

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 4:52pm 10th October 2018. (Updated at 11:37am 11th October 2018)

We are being warned another storm could hit Cornwall this weekend, with torrential rain and gales.

Kernow Weather Team is monitoring Storm Callum, named by the Irish Met Office, as it sweeps towards the UK.

The deep low weather system moving in from the Atlantic has the potential to bring heavy, persistent rain and gale force winds.

At the moment wind gusts of around 50-60mph are expected to hit by dawn on Friday.

The Met Office has not yet put out a weather warning for Cornwall but others are out up country.

"A zone of heavy rain will become slow-moving, bringing prolonged and often heavy rainfall.

"Parts of south and west Wales may well see the greatest amounts but throughout the warning area, high ground exposed to the south and south west could see 50 to 100 mm by the end of the day.

"The rain is expected to be accompanied by strong winds, gusting up to 60 mph, which when combined with high tides may lead to some coastal impacts due to large waves.

"In addition, leaves and twigs, brought down by the wind, could block drains and culverts, increasing the likelihood of flooding."

Kernow Weather Team reckons the storm could make its way through the Duchy during the early hours of Friday and into Saturday.
