A Cornish mum has described the terrifying moment children were evacuated, as a huge fire broke out near their gymnastics centre.

The kids were training when flames tore through an industrial estate in Wadebridge on Wednesday night.

Trenant was cordoned off after crews found gas cylinders inside one of the burning buildings.

One exploded and crews spent most of Thursday working to cool the others and damp down hotspots.

Cassie Grieff is one of the directors at the Cornwall Gymnastics Centre - the unit directly behind the blaze.

"It was frightening. It's such a big responsiblity because you've got other people's children to look after.

"You're trying to call parents and I had my own children with me as well.

"The centre my children used to do gymnastics at had a masive fire as well so it has affected the children quite a bit, another big fire so soon; they were pretty shaken up".

At its height, more than 70 firefighters were battling the blaze on the Trenant Industrial Estate at Wadebridge

Cassie's children used to train with Kernow Gymnastics, whose old centre was burnt to the ground during a blaze at a holiday park in Summercourt.

She told Pirate FM the main thing going through all of their minds was just to get the children safely out.

"Mostly just to get the children safe and out was all we thought about. Making sure there was somebody on the way to sort it out and then worrying about the businesses affect of course.

"Because having witnessed it before, just how devastating it is to watch everything you love burning".
