Almost 400 drivers have been caught speeding on Cornwall and Devon's main road, in just one day.

This was through Operation Flagship, to cut the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads.

Police say several speeds of over 90mph were recorded on the A30, as well as two people doing 101mph.

The operation targeted the so-called 'Fatal Five' - driving behaviours which cause or contribute to most deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

It was also cracking down on offences like having no insurance or licence or driving a vehicle with defects, along a single major road.

Operation Flagship was targeting speeding in Cornwall and Devon, as well as offences like drink driving and no insurance

It comes after Pirate FM went out with the force's new 'No Excuse' team, during a sting around Truro.

The team caught 300 speeders in Truro and Torquay, while others were charged with offences like having no insurance.

Jon Kerridge-Smith was the lead sergeant on that and told us anyone breaking the law will be prosecuted.

"It's not just about going out and giving people tickets and sending people to court, it's about changing driving behaviours; that's what really will help people keep themselves safe and, more importantly, others safe".

"Even if it's just brining back a fear of people being caught by the police.

"Rest assured, if you're out there drinking and driving, driving on your mobile phone, driving without insurance and drug driving, we will find out and we will come out and we will look for you and we will prosecute you".

Operation Flagship will be run again in the future and will target other major roads across the region.
