WATCH: Cat found with tail hanging off recovering

A rescue cat, found with its tail hanging off near Bodmin, has been allowed home for "mummy cuddles" after major surgery.

Clay County Cat Care in St Austell shut down talks of having Cayden put down, after he was discovered in a greenhouse.

Centre owner Leanne Kent told Pirate FM that would not be fair, adding they were not ready to give up on him.

Now he is being given plenty of love and fuss and although struggling with his balance, is recovering from an operation to save his life.

Vets think Cayden's injuries were caused after a car ran over his tail and degloved it.

Horrifyingly, they believe the accident happened over a week before the poor animal was found.

Cayden had already had his tail removed and last Tuesday, underwent major surgery to save his life.

Posting on Facebook last week, Leanne confirmed a fundraiser to cover Cayden's vets bills had almost reached its target.

"Thanks to Fiona Rawlings at Rock View Vets, she has given us a massive discount on Cayden's bill which has enabled us to lower our fundraising target.

"Fiona’s aim in the future is low cost, high quality vet Care to all pets in Cornwall and Clay County Cat Care are proud to be partnered with them.

"We can’t thank Fiona and her team enough for all they have done for Cayden and the support they have given us at Clay County Cat Care, especially me as I’ve been a nervous wreck.

"Thank you to all that have donated and we will keep you informed on his progress and any more treatment or surgery he may require".

Owner, Leanne Kent
