A man has been charged after a five-hour rooftop incident in St Austell.

Police and negotiators were called to Park House flats amid concerns for the welfare of a man in his 30s.

He got onto the roof of the tower block in the town on Monday lunchtime.

Firefighters and paramedics were also scrambled to Bridge Street.

At one point, people were stopped from going inside as officers worked to resolve the situation.

The police cordon was taken down just before 6.30pm and a man was taken into custody.

Officers say that a 31-year-old local man has appeared before magistrates.

Kevin Strefford, from Truro Road in the town, did not enter a plea.

He is due now before Truro Crown Court for trial in December.
