One of Cornwall's busiest roads was partially closed after a multi-vehicle crash in a hail storm.

Three cars were involved on the A38 near Horningtops.

Drivers say there was a flash hailstorm in the area, which caused vehicles to slide on the road.

The roads reportedly looked they were covered in 'thick snow' and 'turned into ice rinks.'

The carriageway was closed westbound near Trerulefoot and it was affecting traffic towards Liskeard.

Officials have now confirmed that the stretch has re-opened and traffic is returning to normal.

"We've just had a really intense, heavy hail shower near Horningtops which has caused the roads to look like they're covered in thick snow.

"It looks like several cars have crashed and gone skidding because of it.

"It's turned the roads into an ice rink.

"I've just pulled over.

"It's obviously isolated weather and only happened here but it could be coming across and hit other parts of Cornwall."

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that three cars were involved and are still driveable.

Officers say that one woman suffered a minor neck injury but the rest seem unharmed.

"All lanes open and traffic returned to normal, multi-vehicle accident cleared on A38 Westbound between A374 (Trerulefoot Roundabout, Trerulefoot) and B3251 (Menheniot).

"Police have confirmed all vehicles are off the road. Lane one (of two) was closed."
