Trains cancelled on part of Cornwall's main rail link

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:31pm 22nd November 2018. (Updated at 5:17pm 22nd November 2018)

The bad weather has caused some trains on Cornwall's main rail link to be cancelled - for the third time in a month.

There will be no CrossCountry services at Dawlish on Thursday afternoon or through the evening.

It is because of the strong winds and big waves causing overtopping along the sea wall.

There will be no trains between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids - affecting people travelling from Penzance, Plymouth and Paignton.

Passengers will be able to use Great Western Railway services instead.

"Owing to forecast high winds that can cause waves to over-top the exposed sea wall at Dawlish, CrossCountry services will not operate between Newton Abbot and Exeter St Davids from 2pm until the end of service on Thursday 22nd November.

"This will affect West of England services, including those to and from Paignton, Plymouth and Penzance.

"The CrossCountry 5.25 Plymouth to Leeds service will run as booked.

"Great Western Railway will accept CrossCountry customers on their services at no extra charge.

"Customers who travel today and are subsequently delayed by 30 minutes or more may be entitled to Delay Repay compensation."
