St Ives School has issued a statement after the tragic death of a pupil.

Police and paramedics were called to the Pen An Gwel area on Tuesday evening amid concerns for a teenager's welfare.

A 14-year-old boy was found at the scene but sadly he could not be saved.

Officers have confirmed that the youngster's death is not being treated as suspicious.

The school says that it is "deeply shocked and saddened" by the pupil's sudden death.

Support is being offered to fellow students.

"The St Ives School and TPAT community is deeply shocked and saddened following of the tragic and sudden death of one of our students.

"He was a valued member of our school community and will be much missed by staff and his peers.

"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.

"Staff from Penhaligon's Friends are on hand in school to support students over coming days."
