This is the moment a car was swept into the sea from a slipway in Cornwall, as Storm Diana hit.

The footage shows the vehicle being dragged along and badly damaged by the huge waves.

Coastguard crews were scrambled to Portholland on Wednesday morning but say no-one was inside.

They have issued a safety warning about the power of the sea, after taking the owner back to the scene at low tide.

"Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers from Mevagissey were paged at 11.48am following a report that a Ford Mondeo had entered the sea from the slipway at Portholland.

"It's unclear how the unoccupied car ended up in the sea, which was moved across the beach by the strength of the waves.

"It had only been in the sea a short time when this video was taken, but the damage to it demonstrates the strength of the waves.

"Coastguard Officers made their way to the car at low tide, with the owner, to inspect it and recover personal effects.

"Please take care in the area until the vehicle is recovered as it could present a danger to shipping.

"A reminder of how strong the sea can be".
