A Cornish book about cutting plastic waste has been spotted being sold... wrapped in plastic.

Author Martin Dorey was "shocked" to find it shrink-wrapped by a distributor in the US.

He says 'No. More. Plastic.' is one of the most environmentally friendly books in the UK this year.

The Bude writer, who is behind the 2 Minute Beach Clean, says it is ironic the book was wrapped in plastic but he hopes it will get the message across.

Martin posted on Instagram: "So here is my book. We toiled hard on this. We worked with the printer to make it one of the UK's most environmentally books this year. And then this.

"It's an absolute shambles, undoes all our hard work and proves, once again, that we are using plastic with our eyes closed.

"We are sleep walking into oblivion, using plastic without thinking because it's what we've been doing, it's the way we do things."

SLEEPWALKING INTO OBLIVION. So here's my book. We toiled hard on this. We worked with the printer to make it one of the UK's most environmentally books this year. And then this. It's an absolute shambles, undoes all our hard work and proves, once again, that we are using plastic with our eyes closed. We are sleep walking into oblivion, using plastic without thinking because it's what we've been doing, it's the way we do things. The thing is that EVERYTHING HAS TO CHANGE if we are to avoid fucking it up for good. We have to reassess everything. Your reusable mug will not be enough to save the world! We all have to do everything at every level to stop the stupid senseless use of plastic. I know my publishers are working hard to stop this in future but it still happens further down the line. It makes me very sad indeed that we are so clever, and yet so stupid. More news when I get it, but for now we don't know who is responsible. #2minutebeachclean #2minutesolution

He told Pirate FM: "people are using it without even thinking, they are looking at this book which says 'no more plastic' on the front, shrink-wrapping it and sending it out to people who are buying it.

it's deeply ironic, quite laughable and extremely tragic, we just need to wake up.

"Anyone who goes to the beach in Cornwall will know that we have an issue with plastic, it washes up after every tide and particularly at the moment with the storms we've been having.

"But we have to do more than just clean it up.

"We have to go upstream if you like, and think about how we use it in our everyday lives."

Martin Dorey, author

"As per Martin's post we worked very hard to ensure our book was environmentally friendly at every stage of the book process.

"The copy in Martin's picture did not come from our warehouse, and we don't have authority over how external distributors package books in order to limit damage in the posting process.

"However, this photo clearly highlights the over-use of plastic in our everyday lives and I hope the small positive is that this image might make people stop and think as we head into a busy Christmas period of shopping and wrapping.

"And continue to keep wasteful plastic use at the top of everyone's agenda."
