Horse rider injured in 'hit-and-run' in Devon

A horse and rider have been involved in a suspected hit-and-run, 20 miles from the Cornwall border.

They suffered serious injuries after falling off at Beaford, including a severe concussion.

Police are searching for a driver, believed to have reversed and fled the scene on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers say the collision is likely to have caused damage to the bonnet of the vehicle involved.

"Police are trying to locate the driver and vehicle involved in a hit and run collision with a horse and rider.

"The collision happened at about 3.30pm on Mill Road in Beaford on the 4th December.

"The car is described as a small black 08 reg, possible a Vauxhall Corsa, and was travelling from the Merton direction towards Beaford.

"It collided with the horse causing the rider to be thrown off.

"The rider has sustained serious injuries including severe concussion.

"The driver of the car did not stop to check on the condition of the rider or horse and reversed back leaving the scene.

"The car is likely to have damage to its bonnet and possible front end".
