The RSPCA has launched an appeal for clues after a swan was found decapitated on a quayside in Cornwall.

Inspectors were called to South Quay in Hayle, after the poor bird's head and body were discovered 50 yards apart.

Anyone who saw something, on or around the last Saturday in November, is being urged to come forward.

"We would urge anyone who has any information about what happened to this swan to contact the RSPCA's cruelty line on 0300 1234 999.

"All wild birds, including swans, are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is an offence to kill, injure or take them without a licence.

"The maximum penalty, if found guilty, is six months in prison and/or an unlimited fine".
