Driver who died in A30 crash 'wasn't wearing a seatbelt'

An inquest has heard how a man who died in a fatal crash on the A30 is Cornwall was not wearing a seatbelt.

Mark Webb was driving a Peugeot van which collided into the back of a tractor towing a trailer full of livestock.

The 40-year-old from Pontefract, West Yorkshire, died when it happened near Bodmin in February earlier this year.

The stretch of road at Temple was closed in both directions to allow the air ambulance to land.

The trailer opened but none of the bulls inside were injured.

A post-mortem has since revealed that Mr Webb had suffered catastrophic injuries and a ruptured aorta.

The coroner said that is possible he may have suffered a micro-sleep in the moments before impact

But it was ruled that he died as a result of a road traffic collision.

Speaking to Cornwall Live after the inquest, Mark's dad Malcolm thanked the emergency services for their role in the incident.

"Since we’ve been down here we’ve been looked after by everyone.

"I’d like to thank the police and also the air ambulance.

"Although they weren’t needed, they were there. We’ve sent a donation."
