'Fraudsters' charging people for Mousehole Christmas lights

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 2:38pm 19th December 2018.

There are reports that fraudsters are trying to charge people for coming to a Cornish village - to see the Christmas lights.

Mousehole has been celebrated for its spectacular display for more than 50 years.

Dozens came to see the 55th annual switch-on last Saturday, with the lights to remain on throughout December.

But organisers are reassuring people there is no cost - only voluntary donations.

It comes after claims people have been trying to charge visitors for entering the village to see the display.

"Warning! It has been reported that fraudsters have been operating in and around Mousehole, attempting to charge visitors for entering the village to see the lights.

"PLEASE NOTE that there is no charge levied by Mousehole Harbour Lights.

"Our official collectors will be in the village with clearly labelled buckets to accept your VOLUNTARY donations and will be happy to show collectors licences on request.

"Also, all of the car parks are pay and display - payment is via a machine."

The lights will be dimmed on 19th December, to remember those who lost their lives in the Penlee lifeboat disaster.
