WATCH: Heavy rain sparks fresh flood alerts

Heavy rain has sparked fresh flood alerts for rivers in Cornwall.

The Environment Agency has issued two for the west Cornwall rivers and also the upper river Tamar.

It means flooding is possible for Lands End, Penzance, Helston, Crowlas, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Portreath and Perranporth, as well as Bude, Helebridge, Bridgerule, Canworthy Water, Launceston and Yeolmbridge.

Downpours on Thursday night and into Friday morning are expected to cause levels to rise.

Low lying land and roads close to rivers could be affected and people are being urged to take care.

"Heavy bands of rain are forecast to impact the area this evening, Thursday 20th December and into the morning of Friday 21st December.

"Based on this forecast the rivers are expected to meet Flood Alert criteria in the early hours of Friday morning.

"The catchment is already wet and this may result in flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river.

"We have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message as required.

"Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions."
