Early morning raids carried out in Cornwall

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 6:02pm 20th December 2018.

Early morning raids have been carried out in mid-Cornwall.

Police and officers from the Cornwall Council's Trading Standards team searched a private address.

A stash of suspected counterfeit sportswear was seized - alongside a lump of cash.

It is believed that the goods were going to be sold online.

One man was arrested at the scene and officials say enquiries will now continue.

"The sale of counterfeit goods seriously threatens legitimate shops and jobs in Cornwall. Genuine shops trying to sell genuine items struggle to complete with the knock-off versions being sold at lower prices.

"But the fakes are not the bargain they may appear as they are often poorly made and can be a real disappointment and embarrassment to those being given them at Christmas.

"Trading Standards advice is clear at this time of year - keep it real and only buy genuine products from genuine shops in Cornwall."

Councillor Sue James, portfolio holder for Environment and Public Protection
