VIDEO: Flooding risk for Cornwall after downpours

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 10:53am 24th December 2018.

Rivers across Cornwall are back on flood watch after a weekend of heavy downpours.

The Environment Agency has issued new alerts for the Upper Tamar near Bude and the West Cornwall rivers.

Officials say low-lying roads and roads close to the rivers are still at risk.

However, they are expecting the situation to improve on Christmas Eve, as the weather improves.

"Following rainfall over the weekend, river levels continue to remain high. This may result in flooding to low lying land and roads close to the river.

"The situation is currently improving and no further significant rainfall is forecast. It is likely that river levels will fall throughout the day.

"We will continue to monitor the situation and will update this message this afternoon, Monday 24th December.

"Take care near the areas of concern and monitor your local weather conditions.

"We are monitoring river levels and have staff in the area checking for and clearing blockages".
