Cornwall pensioner dies in tractor incident

An elderly man who spent time volunteering at a Cornwall waste range has died, after an incident with a tractor.

Police say Frank Tippett was using the small tractor for maintenance at Shepherds Waste Range near Truro.

He was rushed to Derriford after the vehicle came off a track at Zelah and careered around 8ft down a bank.

The 71-year-old from St Austell suffered a head injury on the Thursday before last, but died in hospital a week later.

"A 71-year-old man has died a week after being seriously injured in an incident involving a small tractor at Zelah near Truro.

"Frank Tippett was using the tractor for maintenance work at Shepherds Waste Range, where he spent time as a volunteer.

"The vehicle left a track and descended around eight foot down a bank. The incident happened around 1.20pm on Thursday 13 December.

"Mr Tippett, from St Austell, suffered a head injury and was taken to Derriford Hospital. He died of his injuries in hospital on Thursday 20 December.

"Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and asking any witnesses to contact police via 101@dc.police.uk or by phone on 101, quoting log 519 of 21/12/18".
