Dog and owner trapped in mud in Cornish harbour

A dog and its owner are plucked to safety after getting stuck in the mud in a Cornish harbour.

The pair had fallen in at Hayle on New Year's Eve, sparking a major rescue.

Firefighters from the town and Penzance were called just after 7pm.

Specialist water rescue crews from Falmouth and St Austell were also scrambled.

"At 1902 the Critical Control Centre received a call to state that one dog and its owner had fallen into the harbour and was stuck in the mud.

"Crews from Penzance, Hayle, specialist water rescue teams from Falmouth and St Austell and two wholetime officers were mobilised to this incident.

"One dog and its owner were rescued from the harbour, using general purpose lines and water rescue equipment".
