A woman's life has been saved after a massive rescue operation on the coast near Newquay.

Emergency services are on the scene at Mawgan Porth.

Lifeboats, the coastguard rescue helicopter and paramedics all got the shout.

A woman in her 20s slipped and fell onto rocks - and was in danger of being cut off by the tide.

A lifeboat managed to get her to medics waiting on the beach.

The casualty was then airlifted to hospital and luckily  she is not believed to be seriously hurt.

Newquay Coastguard says that the multi-agency rescue meant a person's life was saved.

"At 1426 on Friday 4 January we received our first shout of 2019.

"We were called to Mawgan Porth where it was reported a casualty had fallen on rocks and was in imminent danger of being cut off by the incoming tide.

"Members of the team were quickly on scene and requested assistance from Newquay RNLI lifeboats and Rescue 924, South West Ambulance Service were also on scene.

"The casualty could not be be moved and the team members remained with the casualty and partner, providing reassurance and first aid, they were all quickly cut off.

"A Winchman Paramedic was lowered to assess the casualty and the decision was all would be evacuated by the inshore lifeboat.

"Once the casualty was landed on the beach they were transferred to the helicopter and flown to hospital for checks, injuries not believed serious at this time.

"This was an excellent example of Newquay's rescue services working closely together to save lives."
