UPDATE: Person dies after being hit by train in Devon

A person has died after being hit by a train in Devon.

Rail services in and out of Cornwall were being affected.

Great Western Railway has confirmed that it happened between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot.

Lines between the two stations were closed after it happened at around 10am on Thursday morning.

They have been running replacement bus services - and disruption is expected until at least 2pm.

British Transport Police were called to the scene - along with officers from the Devon and Cornwall force.

They have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Shortly after 10am today British Transport Police were called to the track close to Starcross train station following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

 "Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

 "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
