Person rescued as a fire breaks out in Liskeard

One person has been rescued after a fire that scrambled crews from across south-east Cornwall.

The 999 call came from someone woken up to the sound of smoke alarms in Liskeard.

The blaze broke out in a storage area next to a house, early on Friday morning.

Firefighters from the town, Callington and Looe got the call just after 5am and police are investigating.

"At 05:05hrs our Critical Control Centre received a 999 call from a member of the public who had been woken up by smoke alarms sounding.

"Appliances from Liskeard, Callington and Looe were moblised immediately, along with a wholetime officer.

"On arrival crews located a fire in a storage area adjacent to the property and worked to extinguish the fire. A Firefighter entered the property, reassuring the resident and assisted them out of the property.

One person was left in the care of South West Ambulance Service and the incident has been handed over to Devon and Cornwall Police.
