Police update after a fatal crash in Newquay

Police have confirmed a driver who died after a serious crash in Newquay was local.

The 73-year-old man's car hit the railings on Henver Road, closing the road for several hours.

Paramedics carried out CPR late on Thursday afternoon, but the casualty could not be saved

Police are appealing for witnesses as well as anyone with dashcam footage, from just after 4pm.

"Police were called at around 4:15pm on Thursday 17 January following reports of a single vehicle collision in Newquay.

"A Kia Venga collided with the railings on Henver Road, Newquay, with the junction of Porth Way on the B3276.

"The air ambulance attended as well as the police.

"The driver of the car, a 73-year-old local man, sustained critical injuries and was declared deceased at the scene; both his passengers were unharmed and his next of kin are aware.

"The road was closed for around five and a half hours for investigation work undertaken by the Serious Collision Investigations team.

"Police continue to appeal for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who has yet to come forward in relation to this matter".
