Jobs roles open at Cornwall's first geothermal spa

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 7:00am 19th January 2019.

Fancy working at Cornwall's first ever heated outdoor seapool? Well now you can.

Eight new jobs are being created at Jubilee Pool in Penzance - as it introduces its geothermal spa.

The water will be heated to 35 degrees thanks to a pioneering geothermal well 410m below which taps into the hot granite rocks.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a section of the pool heated using geothermal energy, while the majority of the pool will maintain its normal bracing temperature.

It is anticipated that the pool will, from this summer, be open 12 months a year.

Now the pool has announced the first of its new hires of 2019 - a Food and Beverage Manager for its brand new and improved café-restaurant-bar.

The restaurant, which will be twice the size of the previous premises is included in the pool's all-new top terrace redevelopment which will see a brand new building overlooking the 1930s art deco lido and views to Mounts Bay.

"We are keen to build an amazing team to bring the new geothermal offering to life and make the most of our amazing new premises being constructed.

"We are looking for someone who has solid Food and Beverage experience and the necessary vision to create what we hope to be one of the must-go-to new restaurants and bars in Cornwall.

"We are looking for someone who has proven skills in setting up a new business and financially managing such a sizable catering operation to drive revenues for the charitable social enterprise and keep the pool here for years to come."

"We are a community organisation run and owned by the community.

"We are building a unique team of people here who are innovative, switched-on and who care about the community we serve.

"Part of our commitment to the community is to provide a limited number of free geothermal sessions to those who need it most, good value to locals, exceptional service and to use local produce and suppliers to ensure we help boost the local economy."

The organisation has decided to restructure the way it operates to ensure that they are set up for the new opening hours and revenues needed to sustain the social enterprise and drive profitability.

All profit from the café-restaurant-bar goes back into the operation of the pool for items such as essential maintenance and reserves to protect against the potential of winter storm damage.

The income from the café-restaurant-bar also helps fund the organisation's commitment to offering low-cost accessible entry prices for all and concessions to those most in need.

The Community Benefit Society which runs the pool raised £530,000 towards the project from a community share Crowdfunder as well as raising funds from other key organisations such as Power to Change, The Co-op Foundation and Architectural Heritage Fund, towards the £1.8M project set to regenerate the local economy in Penzance.
