A man has ended up in hospital after what police have described as a vicious assault in Newquay.

Officers say he was glassed in the face and suffered significant injuries at the Lanherne pub.

The fight broke out just before 11pm on Friday and the offender left before police arrived.

Sergeant Andy Mulhern is urging anyone who might have seen what happened to come forward.

"This was a vicious attack which left the victim with significant injuries.

"Over recent years Newquay has come a long way in managing what was once a very challenging night time economy.

"Injuries caused by glassings are fortunately very rare these days and I am disappointed to have had to deal with this glassing incident.

"We are appealing for witness to this offence. If anybody was in the Lanherne at the time of the offence or has any information relating to the incident they are asked to contact the police on 101 and quote crime reference number CR/005754/19.

"Information can be passed anonymously to the police via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111".
