Young woman dies after serious M5 crash

A young woman from Tavistock has died after a serious crash on the M5.

A car and a lorry collided last Monday and a 22-year-old was airlifted to hospital.

Kayleigh Gill sadly passed away on Friday as a result of her injuries.

Three other people who were in the car and the lorry driver all suffered minor injuries.

The stretch of road near junction 29 was closed for around six hours - and was affecting anyone travelling in and out of Cornwall.

Anyone who was what happened just before 6am is asked to contact police.

"Emergency services were called at 5.50am on 14th January to reports of a collision, on the M5 near junction 29 southbound, between a car and a lorry.

"22-year-old Kayleigh Gill, from Tavistock, was taken to RD&E before being airlifted to Derriford hospital by air ambulance.

"She passed away on Friday 18th January as a result of her injuries.

"Three other occupants of the car have been taken to RD&E hospital by land ambulance. They have sustained minor injuries.

"The driver of the lorry sustained minor injuries.

"The M5 was closed for around six hours whilst emergency services attended the scene and re-opened just before 1pm."
