A young man in his teens has been attacked with an iron bar in the middle of Plymouth, in broad daylight.

The 18-year-old ended up in hospital with a head injury after being targeted in a car park.

Police say two men fled the scene in the Market Way area, as passersby rushed to help.

Officers want to hear from anyone who saw something late on Monday afternoon.

"Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious assault on a man in Plymouth city centre on Monday afternoon [21 January].

"The incident happened in the Market Way area by Colin Campbell car park between 4pm and 4.15pm.

"Two men got out of a silver Peugeot car and attacked an 18-year-old man with an iron bar.

"Two members of the public ran to the aid of the injured man and the assailants got into the car and drove off.

"Police are seeking the two suspects who are described as white and aged approximately mid 20s. One man was wearing a grey hooded tracksuit and the other a dark hooded tracksuit.

"The victim was treated in hospital for a head injury and released later that evening.

"Police are appealing for witnesses and are particularly keen to speak to the two people who assisted the man as they may be able to provide vital information to assist officers with their enquiries".
