Winds of up to 65mph set to lash Cornwall

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for strong winds, set to sweep across Cornwall.

Gusts of up to 65mph are set to batter the Duchy, from 9am on Saturday until Sunday lunchtime.

Forecasters say it is likely that some coastal communities will be affected by spray and large waves.

We are also being warned to expect possible power cuts, cause disruption on the roads, trains and planes.

What can we expect?

  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • It's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves

"Strong northerly winds are expected to develop during Saturday night across Northern Ireland and extend across much of Wales and south-west England before easing during Sunday.

"Wind gusts of 50mph are possible inland and 60-65mph around coasts".
