A driver, arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash in Devon, claimed he had swerved to avoid an octopus.

The man was picked up after a car overturned on the A381 on Tuesday, by the junction for South Milton.

He has since been released under investigation but the initial tweet by Kingsbridge Police received a few funny replies.

Some of the comments included "clearly a job for the flying squid" and "arrested for ink drivng?"

"Police were called at 5.15pm on Tuesday 5 February after a car overturned on the A381 near Malborough, Kingsbridge.

"The car had ended up in a ditch by the side of the road.

"Fire and ambulance also attended.

"The male driver was checked over by paramedics but did not need to go to hospital.

"He told police he had swerved to avoid an octopus.

"A 49-year-old man from Salcombe was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drugs/drink. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."
