Man brought back to safety from cliff edge in Newquay

Emergency services were called to Tolcarne Beach this morning after a man was seen standing on the edge of cliffs.

The man was then spotted standing above the cliffs.

RNLI crews, the coastguard, Cornwall Air Ambulance, land ambulance and police attended the concern for welfare call received at 9.30am.

"A call came in to police at 9.30am. There were concerns for the welfare of a man who was standing on the cliff edge at Narrowcliff.

"The man is now in the hands of medical professionals. He was treated at the scene and detained under section 135 of the Mental Health Act.

"It appeared he was initially in the water.

"The police, ambulance and coastguard managed to secure the man, and the good news is that he is safe."

The man was brought back to safety and taken to hospital after being detained under section 135 of the Mental Health Act.

"Just before 9:40 today HM Coastguard received a 999 call from a member of the public reporting a person on the cliff at Tolcarne, Newquay.” 

"Newquay and Padstow Coastguard Rescue Teams, the HM Coastguard helicopter from Newquay, two RNLI lifeboats from Newquay, Devon and Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance Service and their Helimed were all sent.

"The person was taken to hospital by land ambulance."
