Published by Sarah Yeoman at 8:10am 15th February 2019.

A warning has gone out after a dog fell over a cliff edge on the Cornish coast.

The pet got into difficulty at Readymoney beach, near Fowey.

Coastguards crews and a lifeboat were called out to help on Valentine's Day.

The dog was injured but the lifeboat managed to get it back to the owners.

The pet was then rushed to the vets but it is not known if the dog has pulled through or not.

Now owners are being urged to keep all dogs on leads when around the coast.

"The team were paged this afternoon to the reports of a dog over the cliff near Readymoney beach.

"With the possibility of a technical rope rescue Looe Coastguard who were on patrol were also tasked.

"With it being close to the water Fowey RNLI lifeboat as sent to the area to back up the coastguard team and assist if necessary.

"On this occasion the lifeboat was able to reach the dog who was injured.

"The dog was recovered back to readymoney beach to be with the owners, who took then dog straight to the vets for an assessment, which at present we dont know the outcome.

"We urge ALL dog owners to KEEP YOUR DOG ON A LEAD by the edge of cliffs.

"We all love seeing our dogs run free, but it doesn't take much for even the best behaved dog to go off after a scent.

"The owners made the right call to the Coastguard, and our thoughts are with you."
