Massive fire tears through barn in Falmouth

Firefighters from across Cornwall are scrambled to flames tearing through a barn on the outskirts of Falmouth.

Crews from the town, Helston and Truro got the call on Friday night, along with a team from Tolvaddon.

They called in back-up and relief from St Ives to St Dennis and were still at the scene in the early hours.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue says its control centre received multiple calls to the Kergilicak area, just after 9pm.

"At 21.11 The critical Control Centre revived multiple calls to reports of a barn on fire in the Kergiliack area of Falmouth. Appliances from Falmouth were mobilised.

"On arrival to this incident crews requested further assistance; the water carrier from Helston and an appliance from Truro were mobilised to this incident.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are using hose reel jets to extinguish the fire".

"Update at 2300: Further assistance has been requested at this incident. A further appliance from Tolvaddon had been mobilised to this incident.

"Update at 2352: A further assistance message has been received two further appliances from Perranporth and St Austell were mobilised, along with support vehicles from Falmouth and Penzance.

"Crew are continuing to fight the fire, good progress is being made.

"Update at 0400: Good progress has been made. Further appliances from St Ives, St Keverne, Hayle and Newquay are now in attendance as relief crews.

"Specialist appliances from Helston, Penzance and St Dennis are also still in attendance crews will continue to monitor the barn".
