The Irish Met Office has named the next storm set to batter Cornwall and the UK as Storm Gareth.

A yellow weather warning for gales of up to 65mph has already been issued for Wednesday.

Now forecasters have extended the alert, that will now be in force from 9pm on Tuesday.

What can we expect?

  • Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer
  • Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
  • Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
  • It's likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities are affected by spray and/or large waves.

What does the forecast show?

"A spell of strong northwesterly winds is expected to develop across south-west Scotland late on Tuesday evening then extend across much of England and Wales through Wednesday.

"Gusts of up to 50-55mph are likely inland and 65mph along western coasts.

"Winds will gradually ease during the afternoon".
