Man's body found in Tavistock canal

A man's body has been found in the canal in Tavistock.

A dog walker made the discovery near the college on Thursday morning.

The man was recovered from the water but sadly he could not be saved.

Devon and Cornwall Police have put a cordon in place.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

"Police and ambulance were called at 8am today [14th March] following the discovery of a man's body in the canal at Tavistock.

"The man was seen by a member of the public walking her dog near to Tavistock College.

"The man was recovered from the water and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"A cordon is currently in place.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time."
