Disruption expected as gales lash Cornwall

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 9:14am 16th March 2019. (Updated at 11:48am 16th March 2019)

Drivers are warned to expect travel disruption as another band of stormy weather hits Cornwall.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for gales of up to 65mph, out until 9pm on Saturday.

The gusts have already damaged the roof of Bodmin Police Station, which is currently closed.

The team in charge of the Tamar Bridge have warned drivers to expect restrictions.

They say those could come into force from midday, as strong winds batter the Duchy.

The wild weather has already caused delays on the Torpoint Ferry on Saturday morning.

All sailings of the St Mawes Ferry have been cancelled due to the adverse weather conditions.

Cornwall's latest traffic and travel information, including weather-related incidents, can be found here.

What can we expect?

  • Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves
  • Delays to public transport are likely, with longer journey times for rail and bus services.
  • Difficult driving conditions are possible, with delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges the main concern.

What is the forecast?

The weather warning for strong winds came into force at 4am on Saturday and will be in place until 9pm.

You can track the band of bad weather and see when the worst will hit below...
