Fatal crash near St Austell: Police appeal launched

Police have launched an appeal for dashcam footage after a fatal crash on the A390 near St Austell.

A 26-year-old local man was pronounced dead at the scene at St Mewan and his family has been told.

A 32-year-old man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after two cars hit on Saturday evening.

The road was closed for six hours and anyone who saw something at around 5.30pm is being urged to come forward.

"At approximately 17:32 hours on Saturday 16th March 2019 police received a number of 999 calls in relation to a serious two vehicle road traffic collision which had occurred on the A390 near to the junction of Coliza Hill, Trelowth, St Austell.

"Involved was a silver Jaguar XF driven by a 26-year-old male from the St Austell area and a green Mazda MX-5 driven by a 32-year-old local male.

"South Western Ambulance Service and Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

"As a result of the collision, the 26-year-old male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

"The 32-year-old male was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Police officers from the Roads Policing Team, including specialist Forensic Collision Investigators closed the road for approximately six hours in order to carry out a thorough scene investigation.

"Enquiries are on-going. If anyone witnessed the collision or has any dash cam footage, please call 101 quoting log 655 of 16th March 2019".
