Major diesel spill closes roads into Cornish village

A motorbike has crashed after a major diesel spill closed the main roads into a village near Falmouth.

Antron Hill at Mabe Burnthouse was blocked with heavy traffic in the area.

Cormac closed surrounding rounds too so a big clean-up operation could take place.

Cornwall Council said it could have impacted on the afternoon school run - but officials have now confirmed that the road closures have been lifted.

Police were called to the scene just before 9am on Wednesday morning and say a female biker had suffered a minor injury.

"A major diesel spillage in Mabe Burnthouse has affected all routes into and out of the area.

"Cormac has closed the roads shown in red until further notice while a clean-up operation is under way.

"Access to private property is unaffected by the closures, but we're urging people to avoid the area for the next few hours at least.

"It's likely the closures will affect the school pick-up period for Mabe School.

"Whilst all efforts will be made to ensure access to the school is permitted, this should be considered by parents and carers prior to their journeys."
