Cornwall's getting 63 brand new state-of-the-art ambulances.

The new high-tech equipment on the ambulances will include the Stryker Power-LOAD stretcher and the Zoll defibrillator with vital signs, as well as a new navigation system all of which will make paramedic teams work flow easier when treating patients at emergency scenes.

Bosses say the new Fiat vehicles will be better suited to Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly's lanes and will feature some of the latest emergency care equipment for paramedic teams.

They are set to be on the Duchy's roads by the end of April 2019.

In July 2018, the Department of Health & Social Care announced an additional £6.7 million for South Western Ambulance Service to purchase 63 new double-crewed ambulances (DCAs).

A further £1.3 million funding for equipment was then provided by commissioners.

They will all be based in the Duchy, are narrower and will include state-of-the-art equipment

"This is about not only saving lives, but creating the most comfortable outcome for any individual, whatever their moment of need.

"We will be able to do that by the stare-of-the-art vehicle, the comfort of the vehicle, then obviously the equipment on board.

"And that is giving our staff the tools they need to go out and do the job they are trained to do.

The fleet are set to be out on Cornwall's roads from the end of April

"Parked cars are always a problem for us, and for all the emergency services.

"People don't necessarily think about not just the space that they are parking in, but also the width that is available for an emergency vehicle to get past.

"It's becoming an ever-increasing problem, both hopefully this will alleviate that slightly being a narrower vehicle."
