LIVE: Prince Charles is in Cornwall today

Published by Emma Carton at 8:17am 5th April 2019. (Updated at 4:49pm 5th April 2019)

Prince Charles is coming back to Cornwall with the bid to save our pubs.

It has been 18 years since he launched 'Pub is the Hub' in the Duchy.

The campaign promotes new activities to keep our locals alive and even helps communities re-open or buy them.

The Royal will tour St Austell Brewery on Friday to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Tribute and their Queen's Award.

"They're really excited. A number of them have got their family to come and join them so we're hoping to give him a very warm welcome.

"It's a very prestigious moment for the company and a very special day in our history.

"For that, we're very grateful he's taken the trouble to come and see us".

The Royal was also introduced to representatives from his 'Pub is the Hub' campaign, to save local pubs.

He officially launched the charity the last time he visited the brewery, back in 2001!

“We're honoured that His Royal Highness was able to visit us in St Austell today to tour the brewery and meet our suppliers, employees who work across the business and the organisations we work alongside.

“It was a very special day and the perfect way to celebrate Tribute’s 20-year milestone and our Queen’s Award for Enterprise – a recognition that we were enormously proud to receive for our sustainable development".

What is 'Pub is the Hub'?

drinking 2

Inspired by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in 2001, Pub is the Hub operates as a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation dedicated to improving community services and activities.

The charity offers advice and support to communities who are looking to relocate, re-open or introduce vital services and activities in their local pub, as well as to communities considering the options for acquiring their local pub and the range of responsibilities involved.

Pub is the Hub facilitates projects by encouraging and helping communities, pub licensees and other interested parties to connect and share their experiences and work together to support and sustain their local services.

The charity also tries to help source local funding opportunities for projects.
