Serious crash closes road near Penzance

There could be traffic trouble on the drive to work after two cars crashed near Penzance.

It happened on the A3071 towards St Just first thing on Tuesday morning.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were all called to the scene at 6.45am.

One man has suffered a serious head injury and has been taken to Treliske Hospital.

Another driver has also suffered a head injury.

The road is currently closed in both directions.

"Police, fire and ambulance are currently at the scene of a serious collision in Penzance.

"Emergency services were called at 6.45am today [9th April] following the two-car collision on the A3071 at Newbridge.

"One male driver has sustained a serious head injury and has been taken to Treliske Hospital.

"The other male driver has also been taken to Treliske with a head injury.

"The road is closed at this time on both the St Just and Penzance sides."

Devon and Cornwall Police

"A3071 in both directions closed due to serious accident, two vehicles involved between B3318 North Road (Newbridge) and B3317 (Penzance).

"Traffic is coping well.

"The accident was reported around 06:50, with police officially closing the road around 07:30."
