A puppy has been rescued after falling over a cliff edge on the Cornish coast.

Coastguard teams got the shout to Godrevy on Tuesday morning.

One member of the crew was lowered down and managed to bring the dog back up from the beach below.

The pet was left 'slightly injured' and was safely returned to its owners.

Now people are being urged to keep dogs on leads when walking near the coast.

"Just after 7.30am this morning we were alerted that a puppy that had fallen over the cliff edge between Godrevy Cafe and the car park near Godrevy Cove.

"With the team assembled and the St. Ives Coastguard Rescue team on their way to back us up, we lowered a Cliff Rescue Technician who retrieved the slightly injured dog from the beach.

"Once at the cliff top, the animal was safely returned to its waiting owners. We returned to our station at about 9am."
