Man charged with attempted murder in Cornish village

A man has been charged with attempted murder after reports of a serious assault in a Cornish village.

A woman in her 80s remains in hospital where officers say she was treated for serious injuries.

She was airlifted to Derriford from St Dennis last Saturday.

Now 60-year-old Derrick May, from Robartes Road in the town, has been remanded in custody.

He is due before Truro Crown Court next week.

"Police and paramedics were called to an address in Robartes Road, St Dennis near St Austell, at around 8.25am on Saturday 6th April, following reports of a serious assault.

"A woman in her 80s was taken to Derriford hospital by air ambulance to be treated for serious injuries where she remains.

"Police have since charged Derrick May, aged 60, of Robartes Road, with attempted murder.

"He appeared at Bodmin Magistrates Court on Friday 12th April where he was remanded in custody to appear at Truro Crown Court on Thursday 18th April."
