4 arrested on suspicion of slavery offences

Four men have been detained on suspicion of offences under the Modern Day Slavery Act after police were called to Newlyn Harbour.

A group of people were seen getting into the back of a van from a boat in Newlyn.

The van and another vehicle were stopped by officers on the M5 near J28 just after 9am and around 30 foreign nationals, believed to be Vietnamese, were found inside the van.

Three men have been taken into police custody.

One of the men has been taken to hospital and remains under police guard.

The National Crime Agency, UK Border Agency and other relevant partner agencies have been informed.

Inquiries remain ongoing at this time in Newlyn and Cullompton.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 93 of Friday 12 April.
