PHOTOS: Mile-long stretch of gorse catches fire on Bodmin Moor

A mile-long stretch of gorse has gone up in flames on Bodmin Moor.

Firefighters got several 999 calls about the blaze late on Saturday night.

Hundreds of acres are thought to be affected near Brown Willy and Roughtor.

"At 2245hrs, the first of many 999 calls were received by Critical Control reporting a large fire on the moor.

"Fire crews from Bodmin and Launceston were mobilised. The fire was located on Maiden Tor and was burning on two fronts, about one mile in length.

"There are no properties in the vicinity of the fire and the fire crews are monitoring its progress."

Firefighters were then called out to another gorse fire near Launceston in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The blaze spread across about 30 hectares near the A395 at Laneast Downs.

"Fire crews from Launceston, Delabole and Callington are in attendance at a gorse fire, near to the A395 at Laneast Downs.

"Firefighters are fighting the fire, which is spread across about thirty hectares of gorse."
