Man dies after falling from cliffs in Cornwall

A man has died after falling over cliffs on the Cornish coast over the Easter weekend.

It happened at Porthcothan, between Newquay and Padstow, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The rescue helicopter and a lifeboat were called to the scene along with coastguard crews

Sadly the man could not be saved.

"At 1am today (21st April) HM Coastguard was informed that a man had fallen over cliffs at Porthcothan.

"Padstow and Newquay Coastguard Rescue Teams, Padstow Lifeboat and the Coastguard helicopter attended the scene.

"A male body was located at the bottom of the cliffs."

"Team tasked by Falmouth Coastguard to a report from a first informant of a person having fallen over a cliff at Boat House, between Park Head and Porthcothan.

"Newquay Coastguard, Padstow Lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 924 were also tasked to the scene.

"No further information is available at this time.

"Team back on station at 5.45am ready for the next shout."
