Man airlifted to hospital after head-on collision near Newquay

A man has suffered a broken leg and a knee injury after a head-on collision near Newquay.

The driver was airlifted to Derriford Hospital following the crash on the A3075 at Goonhavern.

Firefighters freed the man from a car that collided with a VW van outside Hendra Croft Farm.

A fire crew cut him free

His injuries aren't thought to be life changing or threatening.

The driver of the van was treated at the scene by paramedics.  The severity of his injuries are not yet known.

The road was closed while investigation work was carried out but it now open again.

"Police, ambulance and fire called at 10.55am today [23 April] following a two-vehicle head-on collision on the A3075 at Goonhavern, Truro [outside Hendra Croft Farm].

"Involved a car and a VW Transporter van.

"The male driver of the car was trapped in his vehicle and extracted by the fire service. He has sustained a broken leg and knee injury and has been airlifted to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance. Injuries are not believed life-changing or threatening.

"The male driver of the van is being treated by ambulance. Severity of injuries unknown.

"The road is blocked and closed at the junction with Scotland Road and on the Truro side."
