Reports of a missing woman have sparked a major late-night search in Cornwall.

She was found unconscious on rocks at Vault Beach near Gorran Haven, as the waves crashed in.

Police, Coastguards, an RNLI lifeboat and the police and Coastguard helicopters were drafted in on Wednesday night.

A specially trained police dog managed to track the woman, who was discovered at the water's edge.

The air ambulance was also scrambled and the casualty was airlifted to hospital.

Posting on social media, crews praised the team work and said "without a doubt, a life saved".

"PD Rudi tracked & located unconscious missing person on rocks at the edge of the water, on a secluded beach as waves were crashing in.

"Amazing team work by those involved".

Officers added: "Female airlifted to hospital and getting help needed".
